THE ULTIMATE BARISTA CHALLENGE® USA

Portland, Ore – At this year’s Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo in Los Angeles, California, Baristas from all over the western U.S. will take the Ultimate Barista Challenge® thanks, in part, to sponsorship from Boyd Coffee Company.
The Ultimate Barista Challenge happens on the Expo show floor, Sat., Aug. 18 through Monday, Aug. 20. During challenge, the baristas (people who professionally prepare coffee and espresso drinks) will have 10 minutes to make espresso drinks in one of four categories: Latte Art, Espresso Frappe, Best of Brew and Espresso Cocktails, all in front of a live audience. Like on “Iron Chef America”, television’s famed rapid-fire cooking show, the Ultimate Barista Challenge also pits a reigning champion barista against the challenger.
After the baristas make the drinks, they will be rated by a panel of four discerning judges, made up of chefs, food writers, coffee specialists and sommeliers. The judges will award the prize to either the reigning champion or the challenger. The winner in the most categories will go on to be the Ultimate Barista Champion.
