Brothers David Boyd and Dick Boyd step aside from the company's daily operations
after more than 45 years.

Boyd Coffee Company, a family owned and operated purveyor of fine coffee, tea, food products and coffee brewing equipment nationwide, has appointed Jeffrey Newman (pictured) as the company's President & Chief Executive Officer. David Boyd and Dick Boyd will remain as owners and Co-Chairmen for Boyd Coffee Company, and Newman started as President and CEO on January 11, 2010.

Jeffrey Newman comes to Boyd Coffee Company with more than 26 years of experience in the foodservice industry, most recently as the Chief Operating Officer/Vice President and General Manager of Columbus Distributing, LLC, in San Francisco, California, a family-owned purveyor of fine foods and distributor of many other specialty and gourmet foods. Newman has also held senior executive roles with TVG, Clark Foodservice, Rykoff-Sexton and Beecham, U.S.A. He has an extensive background in food-industry management, marketing, sales and operations, which includes strategic planning, crossfunctional team building and the execution of profit-driven business plans.
"We believe Mr. Newman has the proven track record to manage our operations and provide strategic direction to move Boyd Coffee Company forward as we prosper over the long term," said Dick Boyd. "He brings considerable industry experience, a strong ability to work in a family-owned business and an impressive record of team building that delivers strong results."
David Boyd and Dick Boyd emphasized that Boyd Coffee Company's fourth generation family members, who are on the company's management team, will be mentored by Newman with the goal of leading the 110-year-old Boyd Coffee Company in the future. The fourth generation family members are as follows:
Katy Boyd Dutt, Director of Marketing, oversees the company's marketing department and PR/Advertising strategies. She is responsible for executing on long-term strategic marketing initiatives to support sales, as well as managing the day-to-day activities of the marketing and communications teams. She is the daughter of David Boyd.
Matthew Boyd, Director of Information Technology, is responsible for ensuring the company has the capability to efficiently and effectively manage computer-based information. His responsibilities include voice and data communication, disaster recovery, processing, reporting and security. He is the son of Dick Boyd.
Michael Boyd, Coffee Buyer, oversees green coffee traffic and a part of the coffee buying and coffee quality control team, coffee pricing as well as sales team coffee training. Michael also manages Boyd Coffee Company's corporate insurance purchases. He is the son of David Boyd.
The fourth-generation family members are the great-grandchildren of Percival Dewe Boyd, who founded Boyd Coffee & Tea Company in 1900 in Portland, Oregon. His son, Rutherford P. Boyd, assumed leadership of the company in 1958, and later passed the leadership to David Boyd and Dick Boyd.

Newman and his wife, Melony, have relocated to the Portland, Oregon, area. They have a daughter, Carly, who is currently participating in a student exchange program in Central America.
